Church Organist

General Description of Duties –

  1. Work closely with chairperson of the Worship Committee and Choir Director to provide appropriate musical accompaniment at all scheduled church services and choir rehearsals.

Special Duties – Work directly with the choir director to accompany the choir/and or special music at all regular and special church services.  Special services shall be designated as follows:  all services held in conjunction with the church year including two services at times designated; i.e. Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, Lenten services including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter.

  1. Be present at all Sunday services providing musical accompaniment for the order of worship, including appropriate prelude, offertory and postlude selections.
  2. Accompany the choir during weekly rehearsals.
  3. If necessary, provide musical accompaniment at weddings, funerals and         memorial services as may be requested.
  4. Work closely with the Choir Director advising of any absences from the above listed services being sure to give as much advance notice as possible.
  5. Arrange for substitute organist or pianist when unavailable because of sickness, vacation, or other absences.  Notify church office manager, in advance if possible, so payment can be arranged.
  6. Recommend any needed maintenance on the organ to chairperson of the Worship Committee.

The organ is an electronic Allen Organ, 2 manuals and midi capable.

Tenor and Bass/Baritone Soloists

Responsibilities include:

Singing with the Chancel Choir for Sunday services at 10:45 AM (warm-up preceding)
Thursday rehearsals 7:30 – 9:30 PM
Soloist for 8:30 and 10:45 AM services (approximately once a month)
Soloist for special services and concerts including the First Friday concert series

St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clifton Park seeks an organist for their traditional service at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. In addition to Sunday morning services, the candidate needs to be available for Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas and other seasonal services.  Compensation is negotiable and dependent on ability, education and experience.  The church organist will be “first call” for weddings, funerals etc. held in the church and may negotiate their own fees for such services with the parties involved.

Director of Children’s Music and Church Pianist

Qualifications

The Director of Children’s Music and Church Pianist should have a demonstrated track record of leadership in music and ministry. A college degree or commensurate experience is required. The Director of Children’s Music and Church Pianist should demonstrate a mature Christian faith and commitment to the Anglican/Episcopal tradition.

Qualities we desire in an ideal candidate are:

  1. Leadership ability—able to work collegially with musicians, artists and other leaders, and pastorally with parents and members in a diverse community. Can effectively recruit and maintain membership in the children’s music program.
  2. Theologically grounded—able to articulate a theology of worship that demonstrates a solid grasp of historic principles and contemporary issues in Christian worship. Likewise, the director will be called to Christian formation and will view their work as discipleship through music.
  3. Musically trained—understands music from a variety of genres and generations, including contemporary music (“praise and worship,” contemporary arrangements of traditional hymns and the music of the world church). Can read and teach musical notation from a variety of genres. Has a sufficient level of experience and training in ensemble conducting and rehearsal techniques.
  4. Piano proficiency – has the necessary keyboard skills to play 4-part hymnody, typical choral accompaniments, and contemporary worship music (reading from a lead sheet). Sight-reading ability necessary.
  5. Pedagogical experience – able to teach a variety of music to a variety of ages, but especially to young children and beginners as well as integrate gospel based Christian formation into music education.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the creation of a children’s church music training program (CCMTP), to include curriculum development, recruitment and execution.
  2. Assure that the CCMTP meets safety standards and conforms to the church mission statement.
  3. Supervise all paid and volunteer staff in the CCMTP.
  4. Accompany the adult choir at Thursday rehearsals and as necessary in Sunday worship.
  5. Play keyboard in the praise band.
  6. Manage equipment, instruments and music for CCMTP including copyrights and library.
  7. Draft and manage the budget for CCMTP.
  8. Develop CCMTP in the light of changing resources and community needs.
  9. Plan special and seasonal programs in CCMTP.
  10. Other responsibilities as agreed upon under the direction of the Rector.

Compensation This is a part time position with a base salary commensurate with experience, education and the salaries for similar positions in other churches in our area. In addition to the base salary the director of the CCMTP will also receive a percentage of student tuition.
